SkillsPULSE Project organized a full day meeting in collaboration with SKILLAB Project, SkiLMeeT, and TRAILS devoted to exploring the key challenges about skills shortage, mismatch and policy as well as sharing the initial work on these challenges.
After the four projects presented their vision and results, the meeting left space to Annachiara Tanzarella and Simone Rosini of the European Commission’s DG Employment, Social Affairs, and Inclusion.
The intervention highlights the growing labour and skills shortages across Europe over the past decade, driven by demographic changes, the green and digital transition, and poor working conditions in certain sectors. Furthermore, the discussion focused on the Draghi Report and especially on the topcis of skills and labor. The report explores how the European labor market should adapt to the challenges of a rapidly changing global economy, including technological advancements, demographic shifts, and evolving skill demands discussing the role of the European economic policy, including labor market issues.
After the formal discussion, this networking event has been devoted to the newly launched book “Re-Thinking Europe’s Skill Needs: Reflections Following the European Year of Skills” under the Horizon funded SkillsPULSE project and discussing insights from other three Horizon funded projects – SKILLAB, SkiLMeeT, and TRAILS – addressing skills mismatches.
The discussion explored how these emerging skills are identified, their role in the evolving labour market, and the extent to which they are in short supply.
Many thanks to Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini for hosting the event in their Brussels office!
